Criminal Girls' sexual punishment will only be mildly censored

I think an even better solution would've been to just not localize that game at all. I'm pretty sure we could all survive without it.

Agreed. There are lots of more deserving games that need to get localised over the likes of Criminal Girls. I don't know why NIS America thought it would be a good idea to attempt this in any capacity.

I think this should tell you the story of how the last news thread about the game went. In general, the threads devolve into thread shitting that's somehow allowed, until the threads get so out of hand they're cut down.

It's always interesting to hear about censorship in any game, and this isn't much exception. Have to imagine with this it's to keep this in a M rating, though maybe such a thing doesn't matter for something like this? If that's the case and it doesn't matter, why bother censoring something to begin with? It's not going to suddenly make the game less creepy for those that find it so...

Until the target audience changes such posts will remain.

It's kind of a corner case. And sales figures aren't that impressive.

The comment that otaku games are "like hitting several F2P whales" is just way too exaggerated.

The last time I went to Japan shit was ridiculous though.

Ok.

I'm not going to buy it either, but why shouldn't it be allowed to exist?

Aren't those shooter games the same thing, but for cold blooded killers rather than pedos?
It is allowed to exist. People can feel free to buy all the disgusting torture hentai games they want on the internet. It's just that many retailers do not want to stock that kind of thing, and that's their decision.

To be clear, I'm glad the game is coming over, I'd rather games come over than not, but there's not one tear I'll shed here.

To reiterate on the "it's either censorship or no release at all", I am confused as to why it's being brought over at all.

1. Only a certain type of people will buy a game like this. This thread is evidence enough. Just the thought of this game makes people uncomfortable and sick (for good reason I might add). So there's a large chunk of sales gone from the get go since this is as niche as I can think.

2. For the select few that would buy this game, they are probably only playing this for one reason and that reason is getting moderately censored enough to the point that the target audience will either not buy it or import the uncensored version from Japan.

So, we have a game that censored to the point that it'll alienate the people who are into this kind of stuff, but it isn't censored enough to interest the people that are creeped out by this kind of stuff. So all we have left is a game that doesn't appeal to anyone. I am REALLY confused as to why this is being brought over at all.

I think it's pretty interesting how the "Big Four" (Aksys, Atlus USA, Xseed, NISA) have created this sort of super niche market where even stuff like Criminal Girls is considered for localization.

Apparently it's working out pretty well for them, because they've all been on a roll recently, pushing the envelope further into localizing super weird otaku games we wouldn't had even dreamed of only a few years ago.

Meanwhile the big companies like Sega have to be almost held up a gunpoint for them to bother localizing any of their less mainstream stuff.

Would your view here also apply to a game like rapelay?
Good question. Where do you draw the line? Does gaming's role as a more active medium affect what we should do? How does it compare to rape depicted in movies?

If anything, at least we can agree this is a more mature discussion that needs to happen. Responses like those to my post are really not helpful.

It should. Rapelay, as offensive and reprehensible as it is, it is not hurting anyone by existing, so I have no problem with it existing on the market.

I will not ever criticize a creative expression, even if I'm personally disgusted by the product. It has a right to exist, and a right to be purchased.

...why did i look up what "criminal girls punishment" was

Ya, I just watched the trailer on IGN, it's really something else. I would absolutely judge somebody that has the game in their collection.

But, hey, slap an M rating on that shit and put it on store shelves, I don't care.

What about rape culture?

As a hardcore libertarian I never condone censorship, but I am shocked that they believe it is worth their time to localize a game like this, I can't imagine it selling well, but I also have no idea how much localization for something like this would cost.

I'm personally not interested in this game as from what I've heard the actual dungeon crawling sections are pretty mediocre, but I wouldn't touch NISA's version of this game even if it was solid. Fuck censorship.

I can't get the article in the OP to load, so forgive me if my question is answered there:

What are the sexual punishments, out of curiosity? Is this worse than that Vita rubbing game?

Me neither, but here we are.

Wanting this censored or held back makes one no better than all the morons on FOX saying violent games should be banned. That's the thing about being anti-censorship, you take the good with the bad. You can't cherry pick things that you personally don't like, otherwise you're no better than the people constantly criticized on here and other video game forums. This doesn't hurt anyone, so who cares. If this game doesn't interest you, then stay out of it's threads, pretty simple to do?

Imagine someone going to CoD threads and complaining, saying that violent games should be banned.

I'm sure rape victims are delighted that there is a game that trivializes their suffering.

I'm sure rape victims don't play rapelay games. It's the same logic as saying war veterans are delighted there is a game the trivializes their suffering, or murder victims, or any other multitude of crime victims. Come on dude.

For full sexual punishment maximum experience, I need to hear the girls moans, gasps, say short phrases etc. to be aroused. Otherwise the punishment will not be justified.

NISA pls

This is basically my thought as well. Even among the pretty niche audience this game might potentially have in the US the response has polarizing at BEST. Unless this is costing them virtually nothing I'm shocked if this works out for them financially.

Added a link to the original NISA post in the op
