Game Informer: June Cover Revealed - Call of Duty - Advanced Warfare

So Treyarch is Zombies, and Infinity Ward is Extinction/Spec Ops... wondering what Sledgehammer's "Secondary mode" is going to be.
Dinosaurs (just to beat BF to the punch). Then they'd have the holy trinity of awesome enemies; zombies, aliens and dinosaurs.

Or, more realistically, they'll take over spec ops mode.

Quick info from Game Informer:

  • Game is set in 2052
  • You play as private Mitchell (voiced by Troy Baker, but only in cut-scenes, not in actual gameplay) who has *intenionally* generic background to fit in every role like jet fighter, submarine pilot and so on... It iwll be story of one man only (thanks god!)
  • Mitchell is a friend of Will Irons, son of Jonathan Irons (Kevin Spacey), CEO of ATLAS
  • ATLAS is a private military group, admitted into the UNSC and have lots of resources, top notch weaponary and - of course - EXO suits
  • EXO suit is one of the key gameplay element, you can customize it and upgrade it throughout the story for points you will earn in missions
  • Game is really focused on story which is about big terrorist attack by KVA, well funded worldwide terrorist organization. KVA soldiers will strike lots of cities in the world in one time.
  • San Francisco is not one of them yet and you will try to stop the terrorists from attacking the city. Later on you will move to Detroit and possibly to another cities.
  • Military technology used in the game is set on actual research or prototypes. Everything was discussed by military professionals and/or scientists.
  • Apart from EXO suit you will use augmented reality in visor, grenade which reveal position of enemies, magnetic gloves to climb tall buildings or cloaking system for stealthy missions.
  • The game use a new engine, confirmed by Michael Condrey, founder of the studio. No more specific words was spoken about it.
  • X360/PS3 versions will be developed outside of Sledgehammer Games, developer is not yet revealed.

Sounds interesting, huh?

So... Halo prequel confirmed?

Yes... I know they are taking about the united nations security council.... or are they?

Ghosts' story is reasonable, albeit cliche. It's a pretty solid campaign on the whole, but the series has done most of the stuff it did before, and its inventive bits weren't so much gameplay tools as just special moments in the game. It had some stand-out levels, like that one full scuba level. Black Ops 1 and 2 are just plain stupid. Worst campaigns in the series, by just about every metric.

The dumbest thing Ghosts did was that, on the PC, in space, it gave you different controls than it did for scuba stuff, even though the scuba controls worked too. They needed consistency on that front. No reason for mouse scrolling/q or whatever when space = up, c = down.

Eh, I felt the opposite for the most part. I thought Ghost's campaign was boring to play and it's story & characters lacked any sort of charisma.

Black Ops 1 and 2 are goofy as hell, yeah (how on Earth was Alex Mason still employed after the events of Black Ops? And did he really just swim from the bottom of the ocean to the top with no pressure issues? Plus stuff I'm sure I've forgotten...) but I thought they were entertaining. I could at least feel a little invested in the events of the story, and while I'm not sure I like many of the characters, they're fun to watch.

And Strike Force being stupid aside, I liked how replayable they tried making the campaign for Black Ops 2, what with the different challenges (most are boring though), the little changes you could make to the story, setting up your loadout before going on a mission, and the generally more open levels. Ghosts felt like a big jump backward in that aspect; very light on player agency.

Also, while Black Ops 1 & 2 had more than their fair share of unskippable in-game cutscenes, Ghosts just felt absolutely full of them. The levels were really short, yet I still felt so sick of waiting around all the time when replaying them to get stuff I missed the first time.

Egh... I don't want to play as a military everyman.

If I had to guess at the external developers working on the 360/PS3 versions, and assuming that no Wii U version gets announced, I imagine it's Treyarch's Nintendo team doing the ports, since all they do is ports.

I'd like that. Spec Ops was wonderful in Modern Warfare 2. Co-op perfection for me and my friends. I still surprise myself once in a while when I realize that I've got the platinum trophy for that game, despite spec ops being fairly difficult. Then I remember the good times...

This does look quite interesting, however why couldn't they have stuck with modern-day warfare? There's still so much to explore. I was hoping for a WWI or WWII CoD. Those were the best.

Nice, Thanks for the info.

A good thing the character has a voice, too bad it is not during gameplay as well, so it will be something like Resistance then.

Aside from that, so from what I understand the ATLAS PMC is the American good guys saving the world, again.

"The game use a new engine" - They also said this about Ghosts first, but changed their posts to an upgraded old engine later. When i see the AW footage i think the game still uses the old upgraded quake 3 engine

Looking forward to reading this, don't believe the "new engine" line though as Ghosts had the same bs touted.
