It's that time of year again, and like clockwork here is your new shiny OT for the year ahead for BLOPS 7. Should be a decent year. Naysayers, there's no need to post and let us know you're buying BF6 instead. This OT is brought to you in collaboration with the legend himself @clarky. Thank you for the guidance my man. Let's get into it. You may not know this because naming convention has gone completely out the window at this stage, but Black Ops 7 is a direct sequel to Black Ops 2. If you forgotten the plot of World at War, BO1 and BO2, there's a story recap below with spoilers for old games. (I'm afraid it's been... 13 years) "See how things have changed my friend. Now it is their land... their people... their blood." From the perspective of Soviet infantryman Dimitri Petrenko, you follow the Red Army from Stalingrad to Berlin under the fierce mentorship of Viktor Reznov. As they brutally pillage their way across Germany, the Soviets ultimately plant the flag over the Reichstag. Reznov and Petrenko survive the war. Reznov's obsession with crushing the fascist Reich drives events that play out in the Cold War. In October 1945, they capture a Nazi outpost on Baffin Island under the leadership of Dragovich and Kravchenko. This base contained the chemical weapon Nova 6, created by German scientist Freidrich Steiner, who strikes a deal with Dragovich to hand over the weapon in exchange for his safety. Wanting to see the effects of Nova 6 himself, Dragovich betrays Reznov and Petrenko, leading to Dimitri's death. Reznov escapes and destroys the facility, before being sent to the Vorkuta gulag as a traitor to Russia. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "The numbers Mason, what do they mean?" ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "You can't kill me!" ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ "My name is Viktor Reznov, and I will have my revenge!" Black Ops 1 plays out from the perspective of CIA operative Alex Mason, who is interrogated about mysterious "numbers" broadcasts. Through fractured flashbacks, we learn he was captured by Dragovich and Castro during the Bay of Pigs, shipped to the Vorkuta gulag, and escaped alongside Reznov, who tells Mason of the events of the Nova-6 nerve-gas plot. After escaping Vorkuta, Mason is recovered by the CIA, briefed at the Pentagon by JFK, and sent on Executive Order to hit Dragovich and Kravchenko. Years later in Vietnam, Mason links up again with Reznov, alongside the MACV-SOG team of Woods, Bowman and Hudson through Khe Sanh and Huế, chasing leads on Nova-6 and the trio Dragovich/Kravchenko/Steiner. A raid in Laos ends with Woods & Kravchenko's apparent deaths and the trail pointing to Rebirth Island, where Steiner is perfecting Nova-6. Mason reaches Rebirth with Reznov'. In the lab, Mason perceives Reznov stepping in and killing Steiner. Mission accomplished, as he understands it. The twist: Reznov died during the prison breakout; the Reznov guiding Mason is a hallucination born of Soviet brainwashing. Dragovich brainwashed Mason in Vorkuta to assassinate John F Kennedy, but Reznov reprogrammed him to kill Dragovich, Kravchenko, and Steiner as revenge. Hudson explains that Dragovich has sleeper cells who will deploy Nova 6 across America, following a series of numbers broadcast from his station. Mason breaks the programming long enough to help stop a numbers-triggered chemical attack on the US, confronting Dragovich aboard a ship in the Gulf of Mexico and ending the broadcast network. "Martyr me for Cordis Die" Black Ops 2 is a unique game in the series in that it had 8 potential endings. It is told across two timelines, across the 1980s with Alex Mason and Frank Woods, as well as the present day in 2025 as JSOC leader David Mason (Alex's son) and Mike Harper as they hunt Nicaraguan trafficker turned terrorist Raúl Menendez. Mason rescues Woods from Menendez's operation in Angola. Later, a disastrous agency raid to grab Menendez inadvertently leads to Woods causing the death of Menendez's beloved sister Josefina, turning his grief into a vendetta against the United States. Menendez plays a long game, working alongside Manuel Noriega to engineer a setup in Panama. Keeping a young David Mason captive, he leads Hudson to trick Woods into shooting Alex Mason. Menendez then slits Hudson's neck, allowing Woods and David to live, promising to return to complete his revenge when the time is right. By 2025, Menendez has created a global populist movement with over 2 billion followers known as Cortis Die. Rather than armies, Menendez wields code, markets, and media. Using a "Celerium" cyber-worm and insider help, he compromises a next-gen US drone fleet and orchestrates financial chaos to paint America as the real aggressor. JSOC and hacker Chloe "Karma" Lynch, the only person who can counter the worm, chase Menendez from Yemen to the floating city of Colossus to the Caribbean, trying to keep the world from tipping into an automated war. The fate of the world in Black Ops 2 depends on key decisions the player makes throughout the campaign. With the release of Black Ops 7, these are about to be made canon: - Alex Mason is killed or saved by Woods (supposedly dead according to Treyarch) - Karma lives or dies (alive according to BO7 pre-release material) - Harper is killed or spared (alive according to IMDB) - Menendez is killed or spared (dead according to the story trailer) If Menendez is killed, Cortis Die followers riot across the world after the release of this video: Feel old yet? While there, they uncover a weapon engineered to turn fear into an instrument of war, threatening to erode global order if released. The sophisticated plot they discover won't just plunge the world into chaos; it will pull David Mason and his team into their own haunting pasts. As The Guild's philosophy on how to confront this crisis puts them at odds with David, he and his team must uncover the truth behind Menendez's return and how this horrific weapon will be used to incite global terror… before losing themselves to madness. In Black Ops 7, you can go solo or squad up with up to three other players in this innovative Co-Op Campaign that redefines the Black Ops experience. This is a story that developers at Treyarch and Raven Software have been building together, designed to deepen the Black Ops universe. The world of 2035 is shaped by the consequences of choices made long before. This is a future forged by fear, where the past is never really gone. One overriding goal with the story of Black Ops 7 was to tell a story that could stand on its own while honoring the legacy of the series. Throughout development, there were meaningful opportunities allowing the reconnection of characters and storylines from earlier Black Ops titles, bringing them into this near-future setting where their presence could elevate the experience. However, it was important to ensure that even players without knowledge of Black Ops lore should expect a deeply immersive and connected story and world. This is where things get interesting. If you liked DMZ or MWZ, then you're gonna want to grab a seat. Endgame is the last part of the Campaign — a brand-new, replayable experience where you and your squad will need to survive overwhelming odds, adapt under pressure, and break the rules of what you thought a Black Ops Campaign could be. Each run is a new step in your power journey as you wield the personalized abilities you've unlocked and face unexpected challenges. And here, all of Avalon opens up. This is your chance to explore the world beyond the mission. Designed for 1–32 players in squads of up to four, Endgame offers impressive levels of replayability as players fight through escalating zones across this massive map, level up unique Skill Tracks and Combat Ratings, complete dynamic Assignments and escape to preserve hard-earned progress. All the while, continuing the main Player Progression and Weapon Leveling, as well as unlocking specific Camos for all 30 launch weapons. Operator Combat Rating: Once you reach Endgame, you'll be able to play as any unlocked Operator and access the C.O.M.B.A.T. Operating System to fully realize your Operator's power and effectiveness. Every Operator you take into Co-Op Campaign's Endgame has their own Combat Rating that you progress by completing Activities, Assignments, and defeating enemies. When your power increases you can choose new Power Upgrades or Skills that increase your Combat Rating. Power Upgrades increase stats such as Health, Armor, Mobility, and Damage. Skills are Perk-like upgrades that specialize your Operator into tracks built around a defined combat role. Each choice will allow the player to advance their Combat Rating, which is a direct reflection of the acquired skills and power. Successfully escape to keep them all with the ultimate goal of reaching Combat Rating 60 – that is 60 player-selected Operator upgrades, a deep system of player choice and power unlike anything ever seen in Campaign. Additionally, you may select and equip two powerful Abilities to customize your Operator's role for battle. Many Abilities are exclusive to Co-Op Campaign such as the Ability to leap several stories to traverse distances or warp in the direction you're aiming to redirect the battle. Endgame Loadouts: In Endgame, Campaign Loadouts and Operator selection become available, allowing you to bring in unlocked abilities from the Campaign along with any Primary or Secondary and Melee weapon into Endgame, as well as keeping Equipment and Weapons you've successfully escaped with in a special "Field Acquisition" section of your Loadout. But if your squad goes down, you're back to square one… including your Combat Rating. Treyarch's vision for Multiplayer is to encourage fast, frenetic gameplay across vibrant maps designed in the classic Treyarch three-lane style with a deep connection to the narrative. To improve pacing, there are more standard-sized maps with opportunities for players to meet head on or push for the flank. The game's 2035 setting gives developers the chance to play with new tech while remaining grounded in the signature Black Ops style. Why am I hopeful for this game? BF6 has caused Activision to panic, and they have given Treyarch free reign and a blank cheque to provide us with the game they actually want to make. This means listening to the community for the first time in over 5 years and providing the biggest seasonal content drop ever seen. Here are some of the changes announced since the beta: - Removed EOMM/SBMM in default matchmaking - Persistent multiplayer lobbies - Migrated servers to Microsoft Azure - Rework of M&K on PC to try and stop controller dominance, including Sub-Frame Mouse Polling A couple of years back the maps for this game were rumoured to all be remakes from BO2, this appears to have changed since with the majority being new. Thankfully the Tiktok brainrot design of the BO6 maps appears to be gone. I would expect future seasonal content to consist heavily of remakes. Ready up for combat and drop into a variety of modes and playlists in Black Ops 7. NOTE: Normal Hardcore rules (a limited HUD, friendly fire enabled and significantly lowered health) will be enabled in associated matches of this type. Here are the new modes confirmed for Launch: Overload: Standard Mode · Core · Hardcore Match Time: Varied · Score Limit: Varied · Party Size 1-6 Bring the device to the enemy zones to sabotage them. Skirmish: Match Time: Varied · Score Limit: Varied · Party Size 1-20 Two teams of 20 players each battle to complete objectives and earn score. Plus expect to find the usual COD staples such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, Search & Destroy, Kill Confirmed, Hard Point, Kill Order & more. In Treyarch's legendary Round-Based Zombies mode, the nightmare begins where reality ends. Following the shocking revelations at the conclusion of Black Ops 6, the crew now appears to be trapped in the Dark Aether. This imprisonment in a Bermuda Triangle-like hellscape — where the fog never lifts, the shadows breathe, and the dead don't rest — has given Treyarch's Zombies developers freedom to explore across time and space. Black Ops 7 Zombies ventures into bold and uncharted territory, where the team's creativity can absolutely run wild. This isn't just survival. It's a descent into madness. These familiar faces will be diving into Ashes of the Damned, as the brand new map by Treyarch is going to have some unique twists and turns for players to uncover. Featuring 6 distinct areas: The Easter Egg goes live at 1PM EST on 14th November. Once a player successfully completes it, they will unlock Cursed Mode for the whole community. This mode brings back that old school Black Ops 3 grind to the game. There will be no loadouts, no minimap—just you, a pistol, and waves of zombies coming at you in madness. Survival Maps: Survival Maps are coming back for the first time since Black Ops 2, delivering a focused, unfiltered round-based Zombies experience at individual locations throughout the launch map. There are no quests, other than you and your squad surviving against the relentless undead for as long as you can. Core movement changes also make an appearance in Black Ops 7 Zombies — with Omnimovement innovations and combat roll present — as well as a disappearance as Tactical Sprint has also been removed from Zombies by default. Dead Ops Arcade 4 is confirmed! This top-down, twin-stick Zombies shooter (shown above) provides plenty of frantic, arcade-style action along with XP progression. Packed with power-ups, traps, and relentless waves of enemies, this is pure over-the-top co-op chaos for up to four players. Expect more details soon! For the first time ever in a Call of Duty game, Black Ops 7 will feature a connected Campaign. This means all the great XP and progression challenge systems you're familiar with from Multiplayer, Zombies, and Call of Duty: Warzone — including Prestige, Weapon Progression, Camo Challenges, Calling Card Challenges, Daily Challenges, and more will be available to progress and unlock in the Co-Op Campaign. To reiterate: Your Campaign experience is connected to the global progression system across the entire game, including a Weapon Camo journey unique to the mode. Every Elimination, every objective, every breakthrough in the Co-Op Campaign fuels your growth, contributing directly to Global XP, Weapon Progression, Challenge systems, and Battle Pass. These are the progression challenge systems you're familiar with from Multiplayer, Zombies, and Call of Duty: Warzone. And that's just the beginning.
