I'm due for an upgrade, but I'm on the AT&T Next plan. How would I get this phone but on that plan? I think previous Nexus phones weren't even available through AT&T. Is that still the case?

which might be never.

However none of the reviews for the Note 5 say anything about poorly managed memory on the device. I am curious where you are getting this from? The base layer OS is Android so it manages all the memory. I certainly never had any issues with 5.1.1 and memory management.

Again two phones with the same screens, one with a larger battery (6P), slower SOC (6P), less RAM (6P), (better "memory managed" as you say) yet still manages less battery life on a day to day basis.

Maybe all the flagship phones of the past 6 months will get another shoot out once 6.0 is on them.

They both look like great phone. Just trying to get other info before dropping $700-500 on a new device.

I don't have a Note but reviews are mostly useless. Just repeated company PR with a few neckbeard interpretations of their favorite tech. It's hard to get a good sense on what the battery is like and why. It seems decent, phone wise but you have to dig thru a ton of sites and you still don't have a good sense on credibility. These various tests that don't emulate real life just seem like a good idea at the time but has some flaws. So, I've resorted to just using personal reviews and comments with a grain of salt.

Uh what?

Note 5 gets destroyed in memory management as it's the Galaxy S6 all over again.

Plus the stylus gets stuck even when you insert the S-Pen correctly due to its poor construction (glued together).

Some videos to confirm memory management issue:

iPhone vs. Note 5: https://youtu.be/Mx6XaV2K8Go

Note 5 vs. some Android phones: https://youtu.be/JV8LlTxcIvY

Another video: https://youtu.be/hm2DP3o8cYw

Absolutely stupid. Samsung builds a 4GB RAM phone that pulls off a 1GB RAM experience.

If you still don't believe that, then go up to a demo unit at a store and play with it.

edit: Since you're paying without subsidy, only consider Nexus phones.

A OT! Finally! :D

Got mine yesterday, and so far I'm loving it. Although I wish it were a little bit smaller. It feels like it is about to slip from your hands without a case. But apart from that, everything has been fantastic so far. It's lightning fast, the camera does a great job in low light conditions, the fingerprint sensor works like a charm, and the phone has a nice feeling to it (although, personally, I wouldn't mind some more grippy plastic encasing, instead of the aluminium one we've got. I seriously don't get why all phones now need to be made of aluminium or any other metal to be considered premium nowadays, it is definitely not the best material to make something you are carrying in your pocket the whole day). I haven't tested it enough yet, but battery life seems to be quite good, and the USB-C charger is definitely faster than the micro-USB ones.

Super happy about it.

Great info, thank you for that.

Update: found that you can fix Samsungs aggressive memory settings and fix this very easily "requires root access" http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/how-fix-mem...note-5-1519359

As long as the bands are supported, you can just buy it off the Google store and put your SIM card in. If you still have payments left to make on your current phone, though, you would still have to pay those. ATT hasn't offered a Nexus phone themselves for quite some time I believe. I usually buy my phones separate from ATT and don't have to worry too much.

In the same boat. I want the phone, I just don't have $500+ to spend on it right now, especially with the holidays coming up. I'm probably just going to wait it out, since no carrier in the US sells the other two phones I was considering either (Xperia Z5 and MotoX Pure).

I fucking LOVE this phone so far. Only issue I've got is at the oleophobic coating on the screen has some areas where smudges stick like a motherfucker until you polish them off. The rest of the screen does not exhibit that behavior.

It's mostly on the edges and it's only visible at certain angles (never when directly looking at the screen). Seems like a weird quality control issue for a phone this expensive though.

For the removable battery, just carry a battery pack with you. It's larger, don't need to shut off the phone changing batteries and with the fast charging the 6p does compared to most phones, you only need a 30 minute charge to last for a couple of hours. I can personally live without capative buttons. Would like to be able to rearrange the digital buttons though.

I switched from a One Plus One to a Nexus 6P and I don't regret it. Only had the 6P for a week, but I am loving this phone. I'm going to keep it until it dies on me.

I got this case. Ringke Fusion Smoke Black

Here's a review I watched on the case from Flossy Carter.

So, forgive the noob question, but if I put the SIM card in the Nexus, then I'm still on the AT&T network? If I log into AT&T would it assume I'm still on the old phone or the Nexus?

A few people have had the glass on the back crack, allegedly with no impact, due to pressure? temperature changes?

https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/com...spontaneously/

There are some pics there, and obviously since the situation is brand new there's no response yet. Mine is in transit and arriving on Monday, but I'm not planning to return it. I hope this is a small minority.

As for cases, I'm going to risk going naked for a few weeks, until these guys http://www.evolutivelabs.com/ come out with their 6p crash guard.

AT&T would read the IMEI of the new phone and know you're not using the old one, but in my experience they don't care. They don't block anything on the network and don't need to whitelist thanks to GSM, unlike Verizon or Sprint's CDMA networks.

My wife keeps calling mine my new iPhone. The front face does kind of look like a 6s Plus.

But check this out:

On my old Nexus 5, a slope like that would be like 2-3 hours, tops. I'm stoked to see 17!

I don't think they're going to have it in any retail stores and none of the carriers have said anything about stocking it. That being if you want to get an idea of the size of the device try looking at the iPhone 6S Plus. Both phones very nearly have the same height/width and they're the same thickness wise so you could get a rough idea out of it.

Coming from the original Moto X, the phone feels gigantic, but I am enjoying it so far. Babying it while I wait for a case to arrive, but I think it will replace any use of my Nexus 7 as reading on it is an actually great experience.

You can either go into a Verizon store and they will convert the micro into a nano for free, buy your own micro to nano tool to cut it yourself, or verizon will make you buy a new sim card.

Cut it. I had to cut mine from my Nexus 5, too. You can find templates online, and it's easy.

EDIT: No special tool needed; just use scissors.

I went and got my micro sim cut the day before I got my 6P...then found the phone company (Virgin Mobile Australia) packaged a nano sim for my account with the phone. Will my old sim stop working at the end of the billing month?

They also unexpectedly packaged in earphones and a cover, both Huawei-branded. They aren't great (earphones have too much bass since I normally listen to talking voices rather than music) but the cover is helping out until the official microfibre-back case arrives.

If you wear tight jeans it could be a problem, the size I mean.
After a week+ my hands have gotten used to holding it. I have done the following to make it easier for me to use:
  • I've moved all my icons to the lower half of the screen to be able to hit them with just my thumb.
  • Started using Nova Launcher again so that I can set a gestures to bring down the notification shade and also quick settings

I read about Novas options after I returned it. When I heard about the notification gestures it almost sealed it for me to reorder. Thanks for the tips.
