It got Little King's Story vibes, definitely. Those are good vibes too because it's one of my favorite, if not favorite, original Wii titles. More importantly though, it looks like a Kamiya game. His style, attention to detail, emphasis on "good feel" and tight mechanics, the Viewtiful Joe-like characters, etc. is DRIPPING from the game.

Like I've said in the thread already, it just strikes me as an old school game from the golden days. Did anyone else not just loose it when you saw the character portraits pop up with the Shining Force-like text speech sound effects? So good.

People have mentioned Viewtiful Joe, Pikmin, Little King's Story, even Shining Force when describing the vibes of this game. But what about Earthbound? Seriously, the color palette, isometric view and intricately detailed storefronts with signage, etc, makes the city in P-100 feel like the towns in Earthbound. It's that Americana through the lens of Japan vibe to the city. Absolutely charming.

The thing I really want to see is the multiplayer. The trailer clearly shows P1, P2, P3 and P4 all running around, each commanding their own squad of heroes, each transforming on their own, and fighting together against the enemy. The four-player co-op looks great!

Considering LKS was a Pikmin clone mixed with life/town simulation I'm not surprised by the comparison to that either.

I'm not seeing Pikmin at all though honestly. I think it's more like the style of Viewtiful Joe, the gameplay of Okami, on a much bigger scale that reminds me a bit of Bayonetta. I see a Kamiya game.

This game looks really good. The combos seem really fun and the things you make like the hand glider, sword, chain, fist are pretty cool. Hopefully it releases sooner in the launch window rather than at the end.

So it's Little King's Story, minus the simulation aspects, plus the style of Viewtiful Joe, the combat of Okami, the boss battles and setpieces of Bayonetta, and a setting reminiscent of Earthbound, channeling Voltron with a pinch of platforming, puzzle-solving and Pilotwings hang-gliding, with what appears to be four-player co-op in the official trailer, all in a new Nintendo IP helmed by Kamiya at Platinum Games for release within the first half-year of WiiU's release?

Very well then! So for now, when we crack open the GAF dictionary and look up P-100:

1. P-100 is Little King's Story, minus the simulation aspects, plus the style of Viewtiful Joe, the combat of Okami, the boss battles and setpieces of Bayonetta, the squad control of Pikmin, and a setting reminiscent of Earthbound with the residential insanity of Zombies Ate My Neighbor, channeling Voltron and War of the Worlds with a pinch of platforming, puzzle-solving, Pilotwings hang-gliding and Four Swords gamepad-to-TV connectivity, with what appears to be four-player co-op in the official trailer, all in a new Nintendo IP helmed by Kamiya at Platinum Games for release within the first half-year of WiiU's release?

2. Playable Game of the Show - E3 2012

3. Game of the Forever

Note I added in Four Swords under the "pinch of" clause.

I love the art style, but they easily could've called this 'Nintendo Unite' and replaced the three characters with Mario, Link, and Kirby and all the citizens with various Nintendo characters.

Probably would've sold better, but I hope this does okay.

It's crazy that this wasn't shown at the conference. Seems absolutely fantastic. It's honestly the first thing I've seen from Platinum Games that doesn't look like generic ass.

I highly suspect that there are other promising titles like these in development by other 3rd party publishers as well as Nintendo, Monolith Soft, Retro, etc. They need to showcase these possible games that might exist ASAP though. Keeping them under-wraps during a big conference where you have plenty to prove was the biggest inept move ever.

Platinum games are anything but generic. Vanquish may have seemed that way at first glance, but everyone knows once you play a Platinum game, its no where near the word generic.

The games Platinum made for consoles seemed to be more or less an expansion of God Hand and PN03 style characters and action. Not really anything for "hardcore gamers" since most of them are into straight up shooters and whatnot. I've seen more people in stores whine about how Vanquish was much to fast/crazy for them to play. Imo, Vanquish was for the Contra/Metal Slug fan, Bayonetta for the extreme action fan, and Mad World/Anarchy Reigns for the God Hand/beat em up fan.

I don't really disagree with any of that, but at the same time, it doesn't mean that they didn't sacrifice some level of creativity, and subsequently game design and mechanics, for what they seem to perceive (somewhat incorrectly, IMO) as what western gamers would be more interested in. I'm not saying they threw it all out the window, mind you.

I don't agree with this at all, though! Bayonetta is far more DMC than Viewtiful Joe. While I can see the relationship gameplay-wise between VJ and DMC, I would argue that it's much more accurate to call it "the real Devil May Cry 2" than Viewtiful Joe 3D.

Whoa man, don't dismiss Vanquish as "blood, sex and violence." For 99 percent of the game you're fighting robots -- you're only briefly forced to fight humans once, and out of self-defense (doesn't spoil much to say this) -- and there's maybe mild flirting at most. The most "edgy" thing in the game is the swearing, but it makes sense in context. Vanquish is buoyant with life (robots dancing the can-can? dedicated smoking button behind cover?) and transitioning from a rocket-boosting slide to a flip-kick and then mid-air slow-mo shoot-out is a dizzying delight. It's simply exhilarating. Mikami at his best proving he's a god among game designers.

And Mad World and Bayonetta, while violent and sexy, respectively, are so full of style and personality that "generic" is the last thing you could possibly call them.

Just had to get that out of my system. Now back to the P-100 HYPE. :)

Actually the multiplayer was one of the first things I noticed when I watched the trailer. Next thing I noticed was the game's page at e3.nitnendo.com saying '1 Player'. Nintendo did botch the unveiling of this one.

So yeah, the site says '1 Player,' yet the trailer blatantly shows four groups of heroes running around -- one labeled P1, another P2, another P3 and yet another P4; one red, one green, one blue and one yellow -- all working together to beat up robots, all doing separate things... Soooooo what's going on?

I never played a DMC game fully so I don't know the gameplay intricacies of it but I think Viewtiful Joe is also very similar :

- You've got the kick and punch buttons (Not in DMC)
- Dodge/Witch-time (Not in DMC?)
- The jump/kick attack and jump/down/kick attack (Not in DMC?)
- New special moves to buy in a store
- Running fast/Panther transformation (Not in DMC?)
- Slowing time + puzzles/Witch-time + puzzles (Not in DMC?)
- The camera pose (Not in DMC?)
- The shoot them up levels (Not in DMC?)

and I'm probably missing a lot.

It's obvious the three have the same design concepts behind them.

Single player, online only?
That would really be a missed opportunity though, because local co-op for this type of game seems like it would be amazing

Nintendo wants to see if anyone takes note of the contradiction, and expresses interest in the multiplayer.

If no one does, then they'll ax the feature in order to ship the game earlier.
